Bret's 5 Rules of Facebook
Watch your mouth sir/mam!
If you have your kids, family or clients as friends on FB and have a strange sense of humor(like me) or you like to have “adult-like conversations”, then you probably need to create a filter so they can't see some of your post.(people misconstrue things really easily)
Don't make innuendo's about someone knowing they will see it. If you have a problem, let them know. We all are fighting a tough battle here in life and don’t want to see your dirty laundry all the time. It’s healthy to get things off your shoulders but FB is definitely not the place if it's something beyond the normal every day frustration.
Be real! Don't over inflate what you do at your job or who you are as a person on your status. I don't like to feel embarrassed for you.
Remember the adage "The more you say the less people remember" If all you talk about is Real Estate EX: " I’m showing 10 houses for sale in Charleston WV today, GO ME!) people will either hide you or tune you out. This also applies to other things like religion, politics, inspiration, jokes, etc. Mix it up! (Don't get me wrong, I make post on all these examples but I think I do good job of staying interesting **Crosses Fingers**)
GAME Applications are SPAM. I've had to filter through my list of friends because of all those "Farmville" "Mafia Wars". If there is a way to turn off posting things to your wall, please do it. It's very close to littering ;-)
Facebook is a great site and I check it daily. I'm sure I've been guilty of a few of these rules before but I strive to overcome the downfalls of man/woman in this new thing called social networking! Like any tool, if used in a wrong way it can be destructive. I’ve seen relationships go bad and am sitting back and watching a few other spirals out control as we speak. Do us all a favor, keep your face clean the pages of the book neat and this world will be a better place. “I’m Bret Nida and I approve this message”.
